A shot a day!

SHOTS IN THE MORNING?

I truly believe ‘a shot a day keeps the doctor away’ 😀 Also when taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, it keeps the doctor far far away!

We have been doing this for about a year now and I am a fan.

Methi Shot

Methi is a real superstar 🌟 It helps with acidity, controls diabetes, aids digestions, keeps cholesterol levels in check all while helping you boost your metabolism!
Soak half a tsp of methi seeds overnight - remember to do this just before you sleep. Once you are up in the morning, gobble up the liquid along with the seeds. If you can’t bear the seeds you could transfer the soaked content to your nutri bullet and grind it all and then take the shot!

Alternately, if I happen to get methi leaves home (generally when I plan to make my yummy green curry ) I use the leftover leaves for the shot. This does not require any preparation the previous night. Transfer the leaves to your nutri bullet once you are up in the morning and add half a glass of water. Refreshing methi shot is ready!

Beetroot Shot

This one is sure to shoot your much needed hemoglobin levels up.
With my weekly grocery I always make it a point to buy 2 beets. On the day of my beetroot shots, I take one half of a beet, cut them into big chunks and throw them into my nutri bullet with a glass of water. We then gulp down this juice most of the times without really tasting it.

You could also strain the juice. Do not throw the the strained residue. These are gold. Use them in your chapati dough!

Kadipatta/Curry Leaves Shot

Curry leaves are filled with iron. They are amazing for your eyes and they grow easily in a pot. It is the most frequently used plant from my balcony garden and the aroma of freshly plucked curry leaves each time fills me with joy. The process is pretty straightforward. Take about 10-12 leaves in your nutri bullet with half a glass of water. I add some lemon juice too and grind them all together. Gulp it down in one shot or filter and then gulp it. As usual you could use the residue in your chapati dough. You can’t even taste the kadipatta in the chapati, but will be gifting your body that much needed dose of iron!

Pro Tip

A lot of the times when we buy curry leaves from the market and do not use it for a while and leave it in the fridge, the leaves tend to go dry. They may not be as tasty to add these in your sambars, chutneys and chicken dishes. But do not throw them. Instead grind them into a powder and add them to your curry. You could also add it to hot water and drink it at night as a warm drink!

Garlic Shot

Ok, this seriously is not for the faint hearted! The benefits of this in innumerable, but the biggest is its capability to prevent high blood pressure. Start your day with chewing on 2 pods of raw garlic (skinned out) and bid goodbye to blood pressure for the rest of your life. Alternately, you could also grind it with some water and take it as a shot. Please remember that garlic is extremely spicy and this could cause firecrackers in your mouth. Also, once its in your tummy you feel the sensation of pulling of muscles in your initial few days. Be extra careful and be thoroughly prepared before you try this one!

Coriander and Mint Shot

I call this my green shot. Not just coriander and mint, feel free to add any other greens that you have handy in your kitchen (spinach, mustard, moringa). Make sure to thoroughly clean the green before using them. I like to clean them all the day I buy them and wrap each one in separate tissue paper wraps once they are dry. This helps them stay fresh for longer. Process is the same - Add your leaves in the mixer and grind them with half a glass of water (Adjust water as per your preference - more the water, easier it is to gulp it down but be sure to not dilute your shots too much)

Bottleguard/Lauki Shot

Lauki shot is best for your gut health. Our large intestine has too many solid particles lining its border and lauki helps pull these out while it travels through this path. This one has the feeling of the mushy lauki pulp no matter how much water you add - so you got to get adjusted to it. But given its effectiveness at cleaning and improving your gut health it surely is worth incorporating into your lifestyle.

Bonus!

Before going to bed always try to drink something warm. If you don’t have the time/mood to make something fancy, at least microwave or heat up a glass of water and sip on it slowly. But if you do have time, I highly recommend drinking a glass of warm milk with half a tsp of turmeric powder a.k.a golden milk! Ok stop thinking of the kinky first night scenarios you’ve seen in the movies 🤕🙄 Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and will make sure you don’t have that puffiness you often see in the morning! It also helps with joint pains.

I hope this article truly helped you get some ideas and motivation to get you started on your journey with shots! They have become an essential part of our lives and I make it a point to introduce it to any stay over guests at home! Remember that consistency is key - try to force yourself to do this for 21 days at a stretch. You’ll soon notice that your shot is the first thought you have in your mind as soon as you wake up!
